WASHINGTON, DC – Today, following news that Meta/Facebook will again ban new political ads in advance of the November election — a move it fumbled in the last presidential election when it blocked pre-approved ads — democratic digital advertising firm DSPolitical released the following statement:
“During the last presidential election, Facebook fumbled the rollout of its pre-election ban on new political ads by blocking already approved ads from potentially thousands of Democratic campaigns up and down the ballot – including then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden,” said Mark Jablonowski, President of DSPolitical.
He continued, “This move makes it more difficult for Democrats to mobilize their voters and respond to misinformation in the closing days of a crucial election. If Facebook truly wants to limit the potential for political malintent on its platform in the run-up to Election Day, it should focus its considerable resources on fighting the spread of demonstrably false organic content and malicious AI-driven misinformation.”
